This is a rare April 14th, 1949 program (playbill) from the three-night, National Tour engagement of the groundbreaking RICHARD RODGERS and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II musical comedy "OKLAHOMA!" at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut. (The production opened March 31st, 1943 at the St. James Theatre in New York City and ran for 2212 performances while simultaneously playing on the road.) ..... The ensemble cast included EDITH GRESHAM, WILTON CLARY, ANN CROWLEY, JOHN ALDA, JOHN KUEHN, WILLIAM SUTHERLAND, JAMES PARNELL, WARREN HARR, JACQUELINE DANIELS, HY ANZEL, B. J. (This was the first collaboration for Rodgers and Hammerstein who would go on to write "Carousel", "The King and I", "South Pacific", "Flower Drum Song" and "The Sound of Music" among others); Sets designed by LEMUEL AYERS; Costumes designed by MILES WHITE; Choreographed by AGNES de MILLE; Directed by ROUBEN MAMOULIAN; Produced by THE THEATRE GUILD ..... DETAILS: The four page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches, is printed on a newsprint stock and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes and list of musical numbers, but no cast photos or bios. Two of the four pages are an advertisement for Chamberlain's Furniture ..... CONDITION: (Please Note!) The paper is brittle and there is paper loss at the top and bottom seam. Despite this flaw, this playbill will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
